Am I correct in assuming the point of the episode was "Tolerance = good, Prejudice = bad"? The writing was so subtle that I just couldn't tell what the writers were trying to say here
.So this is Mong's first appearance! I remember seeing him in 'Hercules on Trial' and wasn't sure if that was his only episode or if he appeared on the show beforehand. On a serious note . . . I really liked this episode. The fighting scenes between Hercules and the centaurs were decently produced (given how awkward the centaur effects can get), Salmoneus had some great moments as always, and I liked the dramatic scenes. Not too dark but not too fluffy. This is one I'd watch again later on. ![]() Banner made by Pandora. Forum Host and Master of Caption This |

This is another one of those YAXI (YAHI?
) eps , since here Herc's mentor is the centaur Ceridian, when we discover a year and a half later that his mentor was in fact the centaur Cheiron. Plus here the kid is Theseus, while in "Young Herc," Theseus was already an adult more than 20 years earlier. (Of course, it could simply have been a different person w/ the same name.)The answer is of course one of those real-life answers: this was, like many of the first 2-3 years of Herc, taken from an ep in the old myths, and it wasn't 'til a year later that they decided to do some Herc eps setting up a young Herc spin-off, and didn't let the pre-existing ep get in their way, since ...ummm... it's make-believe anyway.

Bumping this one back up, since I didn't respond before . . .
Overall, I like the episode and the parallels with the Civil Rights Movement, only this time, it's the Centaurs who are defending their rights, with some encouragement from Hercules. The peaceful march & water fountain scene were kind of cute references, even if they were not so very subtle. Kind of nice to get to know someone else from Herc's past, and how that ties in with the rest of the episode.I don't remember many specific quotes/scenes that I want to comment on, but I would give it about 7.5 Hydra-heads out of 10. |
