I've only read a little of Spinrad - "Agent of Chaos," which I liked, some short stories, plus I think he wrote another Trek classic - "Doomsday Machine."

I think Megan Lindholm could have written a great episode with Xena and mortal Ares, sort of like the interaction between Ki and Vandien in her Windsingers books. She's great with plot and dialogue too.
