Last night while using my laptop here at the hotel, I knocked over an (almost empty) coffee cup and a bit of coffee spilled on my keyboard.  I quickly wiped it
off, but guess what... about 15 minutes later some of my keys stopped working.  I figured it might be ok in the morning, but instead the keyboard stopped
working completely.    I have a spare (fairly old) laptop at home, but I&#39;m stuck here for the rest of the day (until 8:30 pm) without a
computer.

Apparently, <em>any</em> liquid spillage can cause serious harm to a computer, but sugarless tea (or water) is probably the least harmful.  Sugar is especially
bad because the crystals tend to mess with the circuits, but there are crystals in coffee too.

Apparently my coffeed laptop is beyond repair. The guy said that at first he thought he could just replace the keyboard, but seems there&#39;s damage to the
motherboard as well.

The only thing he can do is get my files off the hard drive -- I&#39;ll pick it up tomorrow.

			<description><![CDATA[ Actually I was told it&#39;s because when coffee dries it can form crystals that form new bridges between circuits in keyboards and short/confuse the signals.
If you spill water on your keyboard, you just let it dry and it&#39;s fine, but if you spill coffee on it, especially if it&#39;s coffee with sugar, it can
really mess things up.  Same goes for any sugary drinks I guess.

I&#39;m not popping any keys off!!! <img src="http://board.xwponline.net/emoticons/lol.gif"> I&#39;d rather pay someone who knows what they&#39;re doing. Someone suggested I try blowing cold air from the
hairdryer on the keyboard, I&#39;ll try to do that when I get home. Btw, I <em>have</em> spilled stuff (tea) on it before, and nothing happened. I think
it&#39;s the cream that made the difference because it&#39;s sticky.
