I think at one point they were every single one of these options. But towards the end they were an exclusive couple and that's what I voted for!

I think they kind of had an open relationship but it kind of changed to something more exclusive sometime around season 5.

I can't really see Xena and Gabrielle as lovers prior to season 6 (mainly due to both characters interactions with other lovers/lover interests - notably Xena's shenanigans with Ares, Antony, etc).

However, for all of season 6 I can see them as lovers and I quite like to think they had a "full" partnership - both emotionally and sexually satisfying.

i voted "soulmates (no sex)" that's how i always pictured them, nothing more and nothing less
although i really liked how everyone has a different point of view on their relationship it was quite interesting to read what others have posted

Love can mean and be so many things and no two people showed us that more then Xena and Gabrielle. Love shouldn't really be analysed or understood, some times it just is. Beyond all reason and obstacles, some times people are just meant to be together. The best loves don't need to make sense, they just are.

My vote went to "soulmates without sex". I personally see them as tied to each other in a really amazing and not easy to explain way. I used to think that Xena and Gabby are just only friends! I had never thought of them as being lovers or something more than friends, but when I grew older, I could see some signs of implying something like more than friendship. Yeah...a lot of people are friends for years and then become romantically involved...perhaps more rare, but it does happen. (I know a few couples that did exactly that!)
And *if* they did wait until season 3 or 4 to become sexually involved, that doesn't mean that there wasn't underlying attraction and unspoken feelings before then, which is what I see from Sins of the Past onward.
