By the way, fellow fans, doesn't the episode The House that Jack Built make you think ever so slightly of the movie Cube? I wonder if the scenarist of the latter had seen the show. Probably one of the best eps, IMHO.

Very similar indeed. Although I think people who are physicists or mathematicians and work with 4-d theoretical stuff deal with ideas like that on a daily basis....

Ow Katyrina, I hope you'll have a chance to watch more of the old Avengers! I'm going through the DVDs now and the more I watch it, the more I love it! This was really an out of-the-ordinary TV serie.

When I was a very young child some random channel showed a lot of old shows from the 60's and early 70's in the early afternoon. My dad would take a nap, we would eat lunch, and then he would be at work at 3pm to work the nightshift. Then I would watch Fred Flinestone.He would watch these shows before or during his nap and insist I watched them too. I think at that point I was too young for regular school. Anyway, my brief taste of those shows at such an early age made me really love...

I have to say I didn't care for the movie at all... compared to the few episodes I saw of the original show, it totally failed to capture the charm.

I might have given her a chance, but I must have missed it. The charm worked when it was a novelty, and I'm not sure it could work the same way again, even for the nostalgics among us. I wonder if the film was based in sixties' England which was a very special period, as it was in France, but for different reasons.

Yep, she really is a remarkable actress, so convincing and downright iconic as Patsy.... but quite capable of playing a completely "normal" role otherwise. Linda Thorson grew up into being a decent actress as well (i.e. the Tara King actress, or as Steed first called her, Tara "Ra-boom-dee-ay." )

The producers of The Avengers must have agreed with me at the time because they introduced a younger male assistant to do all the physical stuff. Painfully obvious to all, an overweight Patrick MacNee was easily winded by any exertion in the later episodes.

When I was a teenager I was very fond of John Steed and Emma Peel. French TV was broadcasting the "old" Avengers during summer, one episode a day, and I watched the show as often as I could.

Quite recently I happened to discuss the show with a friend of mine and I picked my old videotapes to watch the few episodes I had copied. I instantly fell in love with the show and the characters!
