I play classical guitar, and am at uni doing music for my degree. Now, in order to play classical guitar properly, you need long fingernails on your 'picking' hand, in order to achieve good tone and it is also just generally easier. Having long nails is really a given if you are a classical guitarist.

Yeah, I'm guessing nails are there for some type of protection. I guess if you're working a lot with your hands, it's nice to have something there to protect the tips of your fingers.

How do you prefer your fingernails? Short? Long? Artificial? Coloured?

Personally I hate it when they become longer and you can see that white bit at the top. I'm a firm believer in short nails and longer ones freak me out a little. How about you?
