There was something about her that I didn't like, which I can't really pin point. Might have been the eyes...

I gave her an 8. I liked V and I wish we had seen more of her on the show. It was neat for Gabrielle to have her own villain, and I liked that she had already done a big blow to the Xenaverse by killing off another character I liked--Melosa.

I gave her a 6. I like the character, I'm of the group that think they could have done WAY more with her character. It would have been nice to keep her as a mortal and have that Gab enemy going. Always have loved Melinda as an actress. Love her on CSI!

Just looking back at this thread, I hadn't seen Kizzy's post before. Funny, that scene where she talks on and on instead of just killing Gabbers was actually one of the few Velasca scenes I liked in A Necessarily Evil. It was quite believable to me, and the dialogue was good IMO. On the other hand, all that endless "Hahahahahahaha" was just ... ugh.

I like Mindy Clark (didn't realize for a while that she was in The Evil Dead III ... or is it some other zombie movie I'm thinking about? ) but I think the character had a lot of unrealized potential. IMO, in The Quest she was telegraphed a little too much as a baddie. Her line to Autolycus about pain was funny but I think it made her into too much of an obvious villain -- a sadist. I really disliked her. She was "too much" and over the top. I know Xena is a bit over the top too, but this one just annoyed the hell out of me. Her lines where too cocky as well. I believe that had they just made her more credible, I would like her a whole lot better.

She was ok. I liked that she was a villain within "a great Amazon nation". Usually the villains are an outside force trying to wreak havoc, but she came from the inside. Once she turned goddess though, I think it became too one dimensional.

I liked her as a villan, I thought she was the perfect enemy for Gabby. More perhaps when she was a mortal.
But she gets a 5 point deduction for that terrible I'm-going-to-kill-you-but-let-me-talk-for-ages-first scene!

I give her easily a 10. TEN. The character was annoying, but Velacsa was always one of my favorites. Look at the superb acting of the amazing Melinda Clarke. She is so facinating. If you ever have the chance to watch The O.C., most definately do so, because Melinda Clarke has one of the most compelling roles I've ever seen on television. Absolutely amazing.

TRIVIA: Velasca was supposed to return later in the Xena series, but was unable to because of Melinda...

Velasca seemed somewhat clever in certain instances. For example, that scene in the forest where the Amazons where attempting to trick her. She figured the attack was in attempt to delay her from reaching Gabrielle and not merely an attack to actually kill her. That was worth something I believe. I appreciated this character for the fact that it was something new to watch Gabrielle being hunted instead of the usual attacks on Xena. She could have been great, but I'll be bias an say that...

A 4 from me. I also liked the idea of a "personal" nemesis for Gabrielle, and I thought Velasca had the potential to be quite an interesting character, but she just didn't live up to it IMO. I found her to be a pretty basic, cookie cutter villain, especially after she became a goddess. And as DoT pointed out, the fact that she had to share screen time with Callisto, who's a much more complex and fascinating villain, didn't help her character much.
