T take a look at the Hercules episode ARMAGGEDON. There's a scene, in which Iolaus is brought into warlord Xena's tent. Absolutely naturally Ares is present when Xena deals with her vanquished enemies. He comes and goes like he wishes to do.
Of course this example is no definite proff, but I always imagined that being the relationship "evil Xena" had with the God of war (before she came under Hercules' influence). If that's true, than it is very probable that...

That's true. And if Xena and Ares were that close, it does give even more reason for the difficulty Xena had in leaving her warmongering...

Yeah, I think the "used to wonder what you look like" exchange is contradicted by too many later references on the show. For what it's worth, Steve Sears has said that he thought of Xena and Ares as ex-lovers (and in fact, most of those references to their past are in Steve's episodes -- surprise!

Well, there are several references in later eps (TDHD, TQIM, Sacrifice, etc.) to Ares training Xena in her warlord days, so I think it's pretty clear that TPTB changed their minds about TR being their first meeting.

I was going to say Yes, during "Old Ares Had a Farm" but wait, that was in LadyKate's fanfic....

So I voted No, Xena never met him in the flesh before "The Reckoning" If it hadn't been established that that was the first time they'd actually met in person, I might've thought differently.

I seriously can't make up my mind on this one...I've been staring at this topic for a while too.
I think I'm going to have to wait until I've watched more of the show to give an answer.

It does make one really think. I don't really believe that TR was their first meeting, just based on what I believe that them having met before and Ares being her mentor and training her etc. I'd have to watch the episode again to get a better understanding on what everyone is saying But I personally believe that could not have been their first meeting and have met before. ^_^

Maybe we should just rewrite the X/A dialogue in TR so that it makes sense...Because trying to rationalize it gives me a headache, and I seem to be incapable of just ignoring it.

If it does say "used to", then I've got a proposition for you: "used to" refers to some time in the past before he revealed himself to her, most likely, IMO, before Borias' death.

I've heard that theory before, but it doesn't really work for me. Ares' response ("That's the problem - you used to wonder. I can't tell you how disappointing that is.") doesn't make much sense if Xena was referring...

I'm one of those people who can't decide. I've waffled around quite a bit.

As for The Reckoning conversation, I has question: The Whoosh transcript says "I used to wonder what you look like". Is this different in the episode? because I can't really go look it up right now: my S1 is on tape, and I don't particularly want to play 'fast-forward,...

Heh. I can't really decide on that. That's one of the tough ones. It's a real thinker though. ^_^ And yes I totally understand the point of "I always wondered what you looked like" Line... but From everything that's said, Wasn't Ares her mentor... and taught her strategies and what not? Taught her how...

I always wondered what you looked like. conversation says all. He was her mentor/biggest fan in spirit. Also, think back to the early episodes of Hercules, where he didn't appear in human form until the third season I believe.

im going to say yes to when she was a warload they got there freak on :D:D:D... because who wouldnt besides xena was always attive to bad asses and they dont come worse then the god of war :D:D . like what ares said to gabrielle when she's bad she's mine but when she's good she's yours or something like...
