Nice. Yo, Havoc would've been dope as an actual character, rather than that big rubber porculizard-gila monster that showed up in A Family Affair.

I'm glad I read all this before I've gotten my Hercules Seasons 1-6 DVDs. Now I'll be thinking about different things while watching them. I wonder what it would have been like if Hope had crossed over H:TLJ?! Would she have tried to find her father (who was inside Iolaus)? Anybody write any fanfic about this?

Yeah, I think Giant Tick was a manifestation of Dahak on some other plane, not his "true form."

I also think Dahak and the GoL were intended as parallels to each other.

I watched Redemption and noticed something Zarathustra said: "Think of Dahak as a disease that has affected your friend. Now they are one and the same."

When Iolaus takes Dahak's hand, the background becomes that same cavernous part of his body that Herc dives into to save him and where Dahak shows up as the monster. I think the monster was created to imply that same disease that had to separated from the body, because it definitely looks like a cartoony version of a...

I believe Iolaus accepted Dahak's offer after Loki's encounter, before Darkness Rising. The monster in the ice cave, and his "final form" in Iolaus' soul, is just a projection, or an incomplete manifestation. He was in Iolaus' body when he slaughtered the Druids; that's who the cloaked figure is running through Hercules' dreams. Dahak can travel quickly between countries where local gods cannot and zip out again.

Good thread! I started rewatching the entire X:WP/H:TLJ Dahak arc a few weeks ago, and just finished the Norse eps on Saturday - it really inspired some of the most angst-laden writing on both series, and Hercules himself was never more interesting as a character before or since.

The way I understood things, Gilgamesh opened the door for Dahak by ensuring that the Sumerian deities would be too weak to oppose him, and Iolaus's death allowed Dahak to manifest himself directly in...

Damn I love Dahak now. It's the best story on both series and rockets the character relationships to new levels.

I'm watching it now and it definitely looks like Morrigan and Nebula were replacements for Xena and Gabrielle. Hercules sent them to find Ares, and those two ladies knew nothing about what had happened. I can clearly see Xena and Gab finding him and persuading that he owes them for all the trouble he caused with Hope.

No, he couldn't give her blood because he hadn't manifested in the world yet. Basically he laid all of his hopes on Hope because she was his avatar, and an avatar is expendable because it's an extension of himself. Bringing himself directly into the world through Iolaus was much riskier.

To me the Loki thing was a temporary measure. He couldn't expose himself completely because he was still vulnerable. He gave Loki that opportunity, and the moment Iolaus accepted his...

In that case I wonder why Hope needed the Hind's Blood Dagger -- Daddy could have just given her a few droplets of his own. Or was that because he hadn't fully entered the world yet? Then again... had he fully entered the world in H:TLJ S5? He never did, did he?

What's your opinion of how Xena and Hercules separately handled the Dahak saga and how it might have ended?

The stories have a lot of parellels in their basic plots. Among them are:

- A journey to a new foreign land to help an old friend in need
- The illusion of an ally, and an attempted sacrifice
- Travel to a foreign land searching for the partner, who is not there.
- Return of the partner with a twist
- Dahak's manipulation of the partner...
