Still not an RJ fan after reading this (sorry!). Hudson nailed it when she said that he can do a big "comic book" style idea or scene. He can create a big character. But in my opinion, that's where it stops. *shrug*

The other writers were much better at story, and understanding the depth of the character's emotions and what was important to the fan base. His overall disdain for what other people feel about his work, to me, is palpable. I don't understand it. I...

I guess that's why it kind of stinks that Gabrielle wasn't allowed to be just as selfish in AFIN and bring Xena back. Maybe it would have been totally out of character for Gab to not give a **** about the greater good. But Xena was her soulmate after all, who has more of a right to be selfish than Gab.

I think that's what part of made the show so interesting if frustrating at times, that there were so many different opinions among the staff.

I didn't interpret RJ's response as necessarily meaning that Ares' sacrifice in MH was partly about self-preservation -- more that a part of him was hoping that, in addition to saving Xena's life and making her happy by saving the two people she loved most, he would also...

Interesting thread and thanks to RJ. As always it shows that even the producers and writers have their own opinions on the show and that even they are not always in agreement with each other, much like hear. For Rj he felt that Gabrielle loved Perdicus but wouldn't have stayed with him had he lived, I don't think she loved him I think she loved the idea of marriage and felt guilt for what Perdicus had become. I actually agree that there was an element of self preservation in Ares...

I think its awesome that RJ took the time to answer the questions...and I also think Chris Manheim would be another great one for the Q & A. I haven't read all the Q & A but will be going back over them and reading them all..

Oh and Ep, just wanted to say, I double-checked to see that your questions were submitted along with the others. They were, but I guess RJ felt that the answers to them overlapped with ones he already gave to other questions. I know you're disappointed but I'm glad you still found the Q & A satisfying!

Actually I'm not sure that by "the whole time" RJ meant, the whole time she was Evil Xena. I think he meant in the Ring trilogy.

Hmm, maybe I'll push my luck and ask him that in a follow-up.

(Btw, I do think RJ likes us. He'll be getting our Xenites coffee mug.)

What I don't agree with is that Xena had the chakram with her the whole time & just used other weapons. EX would so have used her chakram in AITSTs against all of those amazons.

Many thanks to RJS for taking the time to respond to the mass of questions - and kudos to everyone who submitted questions; I think that we made a good show of being thoughtful, informed, sane TV fans, and I'm sure that RJS appreciated it.

Now, we just have to convince Liz Friedman that we don't eat babies and sacrifice goats in the basement every full moon, and maybe she'll answer some questions as well . . .

It was simply very nice of Mr. Stewart to answer all and so many questions (great food for thought) !

I don't see my questions specifically (?) altho' I think the main question I submitted was about AFIN (the finale) and certainly he answered very directly about that.

There's a lot to refer back here and like others I don't agree with all of his comments (like Gabrielle loved Perdicus) but its always good to hear an insider's opinion. It seems there was...
