True, if she hadn't been given the Power it would have been a different story. And luckily for her, she had also Ares on her side. But I think with or without the help from those two gods, Athena would still have a hard time trying to get rid off the warrior princess. Xena would have done anything to protect Eve, and probably got her hands on another god killing weapon then.. though, I would've liked a bigger battle between Athena and Xena at the end.. but thanks to Ares, ended pretty...

Xena wouldn't have had that power without God's help. Athena was the only god whom Xena was unable to defeat in battle without help. She needed Ares' help to hold off Athena at Amphipolis while she beat Ilainus, and almost lost the killing power from God if not for Ares.

I didn't mind Hera's end, but something a bit more heroic would've been nice. What happened demonstrated that even after years of tormenting Hercules with all her power and influence over...

Hera was awesome. The writers used her perfectly on Hercules; they didn't overuse her and they saved her first on-screen appearance for a major blowout with Hercules. Meg Foster did not disappoint. She worked extremely well as an evil goddess and I never liked, or found believable, her change of heart. Hera's character was the only part I didn't like in the otherwise spectacular God Fearing Child.

But I do disagree with you about the gods being two-dimensional...

The Doctor, I can agree with most of what you said. Hera was AWESOME when she was evil. She was far more dangerous than the rest of the Olympians managed to be during the twilight when they were fighting for their lives. Out of all the Olympians, she presented the greatest threat to mankind, and nearly wiped us out where Athena couldn't manage to stop a single mortal.

I really like the way she died. It was almost poetic and beautiful in a strange way. Dying with a kiss.
I did think it was a bit sad for Hera to die just after she had become (kinda) good.
But I guess it makes sense that if you betray zeus he would kill ya! hehe

I didn't like Hera redeeming herself. She killed Hercules' family because she was angry with Zeus and tried to wipe out the entire human race at least twice. She spent all of her existence being an evil goddess who tormented the lives of humans for her own enjoyment, but now she's willing to sacrifice her life for them because she believes the time of the Olympian gods is over? What!?

It doesn't make sense. She spent the entire series evil and was Hercules'...

LK, I wonder if the other gods thought that Hera "vanished" because they didn't know about the kiss Zeus gave her. He was the only one there, and he was killed shortly thereafter so he never got a chance to tell anybody. I liked the way they kept it dubious enough to bring her back.

Unfortunately when gods become good in the Xenaverse, they rarely stick around and are no longer useful for the writers. It happened with Hera, and later with Michael. Aphrodite mainly...

I thought Hera's "death" was fitting as well - she ends up defending Herc, after all of the evil she brought upon him and his family, and her end at the hands of Zeus was strangely moving. Funny how it parallels Xena's death in FIN - in both cases, death (or other forms of oblivion) is seen as the ultimate act of redemption for past crimes.

Yeah, I don't think it was meant to be permanent.. Just to have her out of the way for a while.. Long enough to do what he wanted to do without interference.. And just when she wanted to do a good deed, Zeus showed up and 'killed' her..

Interesting point, Apollo! Ares says that "Hera vanished."

One theory I've seen is that Zeus basically gathered/swallowed Hera's essence into himself in order to keep her under control until he had killed Xena and her baby. (This is based on the myth in which Zeus swallowed his lover the goddess Metis because he was afraid of her powers; Metis was pregnant at the time and that's how Athena sprung from the head of Zeus.) Then Hera was destroyed along with him...

You know, I really never thought she died. They never said that. It was interesting to see her exit the series the way she did, but I have a hard time thinking Zeus killed her. I mean, she did a LOT of things to p** him off like take his throne, kill Herc's family, nearly put an end to mankind. Her betrayal on this occassion didn't seem worse than any other time.

I have always thought that whatever Zues did to Hera, it wasnt permanent. He was getting her out of the way, and at the same time punishing her for going against him, but when he was through, he could bring her back. Of course his death took that option away.

I actually thought it was very good and an interesting conclusion for Hera, who grew into a much more complex character. She rediscovered her love for Zeus yet also went against him when he was doing something wrong, and basically went out doing a good deed. I also thought it was fitting that she died in a sort of "kiss of death," reaffirming their love at the end.

It was a rather bizarre death and a little over the top. I think Zeus overreacted to the sitution. Plus there were other things he could have done to prevent her interferring. He was so afraid of the death of teh gods and then he goes and kills the queen of teh gods. Clearly no logic there, or love. He didnt even seem remorseful, it was rather cold and shamful of him to 1) deny Hera a great farewell, a death in style 2) to kill her at all since her interference was already over 3) kill her...

What did you think about Hera's death in GFC, did you like the way she went out on or was it rather pointless for such a strong powerful character.

Would it have been better if only Zeus died in GFC, and Hera remained alive for the twlight arc a little more.
