I do use photoshop. I do a lot with fuzzy brushes, the default ones that don't have the hard edge to them, and then I use opacity when I erase so that things blend together seamlessly. I also use a lot of layer masks so that I can work with erasing portions of an image without actually destroying the image (makes undoing really quick!).
