Our young heroine realizes what it would be like were she to accept the proposal of He Who Takes Life.
The same difficulties, too would face the woman strong enough to brave the perils of loving He Who Is War.

Possibly Rhett and Scarlett...but I may be getting a "false positive" from the fact that I think Kevin Smith would have made a *much* better Rhett than Clark Gable did. The analogy also doesn't entirely work because even though she ended up ruining Rhett, Scarlett was not really his equal in the way that Xena is Ares's.

I've read those books as well but I don't believe Bella and Edward are nearly the same as Xena and Ares. In fact, I can't characterize them with ANY of the same qualities as characters or as a couple. The only similarities that Ares and Edward share...

Erik and Christine from Phantom of the Opera!

I know there aren't a lot of POTO around here (i've looked) but its awsome just the same!

I'm even writing a fanfiction about Erik and Christine *cough cough*

And the other one is Bella and Edward from the Twilight book series by Stephenie Meyer (soon to be amazing movie). I love them too. The last book in the series comes out in August, but the third book (when it was released) beat...

Well, Ive never been a Buffy watcher, but I decided to watch clips of Spuffy and I definitely see why they are compared to Xena and Ares.
They have the love hate thing going on and they have some mad chemistry.

Oh yeah, Aquila -- I've always thought a lot of X/A moments had a Beatrice-and-Benedick vibe to them. The whole "banter-by-insult" thing -- "You say presence, I say stench," etc.

Xena is a unique character, makes sense that her relationships would be unique as well.

Don't think there are any! For some reason, when it comes to Xena she creates this sort of energy in each of her relationships. All of which are different and are special in there own way. Xena and Ares had there own thing going. I can't think of any other couples in or out the show that might have been similar to X/A.

Okay, okay…so I have another one…as you can tell this is probably my favorite post…but a couple that reminds me of the X/A romance would undoubtedly be Ralph and Meggie from The Thornbirds, if the roles were reversed. Meggie more or less reminds me of Ares (not so much their past) but because she wants the relationship with Ralph and will do anything to get it. I thought there was a thread like this already and I couldnt find it so a new one I will start
I am a HUGE fan of the J.D Robb (Nora Roberts) In Death series and the heroine of the books, Eve Dallas, remind me so much of Xena. Her husband Roarke, to me, is what Ares would have been if he would have stayed mortal and him and Xena would have gotten together. Any fans of the series? Anyone agree with me? What other couples remind you of X/A?
