That's interesting, Aresbitch.

I would have been happy to see her more covered like in an outfit similar to the late season 1 outfit she wore. There, her stomach did show through but it wasn't all that revealing. I think they could have made her look sexier, more mature as the seasons went on without having to remove a lot of her cloths.

And if you're wondering that I'm just picking on Gabrielle's outfits, I'm not.

I remember watching A Good Day, and feeling very bad for ROC because there was that one point where Gabrielle had to run up and tell the villagers that whatever retreat was going on was just a ruse by Ceasar - she was wearing that little top, and her skirt had split as she was running, and I swear it looked like she was shivering. The wind was blowing during the scene. She just looked cold.

I appreciated the hard work she went through to keep Gabrielle's body in top...

I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt that way. In a way, it kind of irritated me how sexed up she became later on. And it has nothing to do with how she looks it's just, not my thing and not for a soon-to-be-warrior.

Ya, I really didn't like the red outfit of season 6. I just always felt like she needed to cover up a bit more I guess logically, it doesn't make sense to expose all that flesh to an enemy! haha! I guess however, her glorious abs did serve as eyecandy!

I guess the BGSB represents classic gabby to me...

It is funny how all her costumes got skimpier as she progressed. I guess ROC became more comfortable with herself.

To answer Booncy's original question: I think the BGSB is most commonly associated with Gabrielle, and considered the "classic" look, because that was her outfit when the show was at the height of its popularity and quality. It's also the one she wore for the longest time -- from the start of Season 2 until late Season 4, more than 2 1/2 seasons. (Admittedly the S2 BSGB was a bit different from the S3/4 one but you'd have to look closely to notice.)

I loved Gabrielle's brown outfit from late season 1. That's the only season 1 outfit that I really did like. It really went well with her hair color at the time, too. And I agree about the blue in it--it was a nice compliment to the redish brown.

I agree about the roughness of the BSBG in season 2. I liked the criss/cross a bit better than the flower pattern, though.

You know, I think I agree about the red velvet outfit of season 6. It was pretty, no doubt, but not...

I had forgotten all about Xena being able to do that. To me, the 2 BGSBs looked like 2 different tops, so technically, she didn't wear either that much longer than the res of the tops, just the skirt.

I quite liked Gabrielle's outfit at the end of season 1 as well. The colours, especially the inclusion of "blue" seemed to work really well for Gabrielle and the earthy browns seemed to symbolise Gabrielle's status as an Amazon. With a few modifications, I would have been happy for that costume to remain.

I recall reading that the "shoulder" part was cut back to allow for more ease of movement for ROC given all the staff work she was doing.

Not quite sure about the skirt, but the later skirt seemed better designed for kicks and movement (running) that the first skirt (since the second skirt was basically made up of four panels of material).

As for the change from the "cross/square" pattern to the flowers, I'm guessing that...

Gotta agree with Jenn and the rest. The shrinking abilities mixed with the abs is what has made the BGSB legendary.

It's an almost Pavlovian response, or at least in some of us. The BGBS means fab abs, very soft and inviting looking cleavage and skin of which we slowly get to see more and more, and before we can gather our thoughts into something remotely coherent our mouths are watering.

I notice that out of all of Gabrielle's outfits that she wore throughout the series that the BGSB outfit she sported gets the most recognition. Xenites have given it the dubbed name the BGSB, it's been joked about by the characters & Gabrielle herself in the series, it's ironically considered her "Classic" look despite the less popular outfits she wore in season 1, and even on most of the Xena toys/merchandise they always have Gabrielle in that particular outfit....
